2nd Day on Lady Chancellor Hill – Fantastic

13 Apr

Crystal almost near the top

Tues. 12 Apr 2011: The alarm was buzzing and I dragged myself off the bed at 4:00am. Went to see if perhaps it was raining outside – looking for an excuse to, not go and walk. No such luck.

Texted Crystal to find out if she was up. She was up and on facebook…eh??

I arrived at the bottom of the hill at about 4:50am. I was glad to see a police patrol parked at the bottom. They stayed for about 5mins before pulling off. I then saw another police patrol leaving the area soon after. Several people arrived and started  heading up the hill. Crystal arrived at 5:00am and we headed out. The hardest part of the hill is the beginning until about 3mins of walking after poui hill. During that time I do the criss cross walking which helps me keep pace with Crystal, who sometimes leave me a good few feet behind. Told her that I will bring a whistle next time, so she can hear me when I call to her, to wait for me. Usually on the way down the hill, she tends to grill me on the foods that I will be having for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the day.

I recognize that I am not in shape and I am not afraid to say so. I also recognize that I need to make exercise a life time commitment if I am going to stay around long enough to see my son graduate.

Wiping the sweat off my face

Walking Lady Chancellor Hill brings back memories of my whole family – (5) five children, at various stages in life – walking the road to Maracas from the pillars. My dad would be the last person behind everyone and he had a stick which he loved to carry with him – he would say, – don’t let me catch you. We were his little soldiers.  If my dad was not in a good mood, he would make us walk back to the pillars. Yes, we had a car. My mother drove the car in front and she would have water and food waiting at various corners. for us to drink and eat. The look-out was always a welcome sight as we knew that the rest of the walk, was going to be easy from there. Every Sunday for years, rain or shine, we were on that road. To help make it enjoyable for us, my mother would arrange incentives like new tee-shirts for whoever came in first, because she knew that we hated it. Looking back on it now, I realize that the discipline and the mental strength to continue walking that road for years, has helped in building my character and has made me who I am today. I handle pressure well!!

No – we are not being held up. We are happy to be at the top  – 2nd day on the hill for me.

Wednesday 13, April 2011: This morning was not good. My muscles were so sore. I could not make spin class at 5:30am with Crystal as I could not get off the bed. Told her that I would rest today and be on the hill tomorrow with her. You really have to admire Crystal. She is like the energizer bunny!! She just keeps going and going and going. I know that I will get there with time – after all it is only my 1st week doing the physical exercise.

Day 3 tomorrow….

An epsom salts bath/soak, is supposed to be very good for aching muscles.
